Premises that never worked, and premises taken over
Two situations bring most of this work. The first is taking over a unit where the previous business failed — sometimes several in succession, which owners in a retail strip notice and talk about. The second is a business that has slowed in premises where it used to do well, without any change in the trade to explain it.
Commercial premises accumulate differently from homes. A great many people pass through carrying their own difficulties; disputes with staff, suppliers and customers happen on site; and where a previous tenant went under, the failure itself happened in that space. In traditional understanding all of that leaves a residue, and it tends to concentrate at the entrance, the till and the stockroom.
The clearing follows the same lines as a home — salt and water, camphor, incense and mantra through the premises — with attention to the commercial specifics. The entrance receives particular focus, since it is the boundary customers cross; the till or cash point is treated; and stockrooms and back areas, which are almost always where accumulation is heaviest, are not skipped.
Afterwards a prosperity observance is established: commonly a Kuber or Sri Yantra placed and consecrated, a lamp lit at opening, and a weekly practice the owner or manager can maintain. Practical arrangements are straightforward — the work is scheduled outside trading hours, early morning or after closing, and staff attendance is entirely optional.

A clear, caring path
How commercial premises are cleared
Commercial premises are cleared by first understanding the trading history, then working through the unit with particular attention to the entrance and the till, and finally establishing a prosperity observance the staff can maintain.
Understand the trading history
What has happened in the premises — previous tenants, the pattern of the downturn, disputes on site — and which areas feel worst to those who work there.
Clear, with focus on entrance and till
The premises are cleared throughout, with particular attention to the entrance, the till and the stockroom, where accumulation tends to concentrate.
Establish a prosperity observance
A yantra placed and consecrated, a lamp at opening, and a weekly practice the owner or manager can realistically keep up.

What a commercial clearing does and does not address
Being clear about this matters. A clearing is not a substitute for the ordinary reasons a business struggles.
| Addressed by a clearing | Not addressed by a clearing |
|---|---|
| Premises that felt wrong from the day you took them on | Pricing, margin or a weak trading location |
| A unit whose previous tenants left in difficult circumstances | Competition, footfall or changing demand |
| Atmosphere staff and customers remark on without prompting | Staffing problems with an ordinary cause |
| A specific area of the shop customers consistently avoid | Anything an accountant or a landlord should be looking at |
Do any of these sound familiar?
